The rhetoric surrounding the internet and its usage is problematic. The tendency of both school districts and internet providers to portray the internet as a place where minorities are guests rather than the intended users only adds to the mental aspect of the Digital Divide. The assumption that the internet is a place free of race is a false one, and rears its head when people assume their physical personas online. The majority of the internet's users are white, but the number of non-white individuals online is increasing at a rapid rate. While their presence increases the attitude of the internet continues in the same fashion. Attempts to increase the number of minorities on the internet result in attempts to make it appear more accessible to everyone, which often result in advertisements of the ease of the internet.
