In an increasingly computer dependent world (some would argue that it's already wholly dependent), computer literacy presents itself as a vital skill. Those without it are left to less fulfilling and lower paying jobs. It happens that in the United States today most of those people at a lower socioeconomic level tend to be minorities, which place them in poorer school districts. The cycle, however, can be stopped with the addition further funding, especially in terms of technology. Schools with more funding are more likely to have access to better teachers and better educational supplies, which can aid a student without substantial access to technology in his or her home life.
Why does it matter?
The future of the education system and by extension the country relies on the ability of our students to learn more ad function in a work environment. Without proper education we simply further the rich-poor gap, and provide future generations with fewer opportunities to make lives better for themselves and for the rest of us.
